First, some reassurance for those of you with prolific posters on your reading list: I doubt I'll ever post more than once a day, if that.

Next, an indication of what I might post about, so that those of you who are in the wrong journal can leave the room now if you wish:

Reading — books, newspapers, Internet, whatever. I've been reading voraciously since the age of 3 (when my mother taught me to read in a successful effort to show me how to entertain myself and give her some peace and quiet). I don't expect to stop any time soon, neither reading nor having opinions on what I've read.

Writing. I wrote my first (albeit very short!) novel at the age of 8, on the toy typewriter I was given for my birthday (so much for that peace and quiet). My first novel was published when I was 30. Life then threw a few spanners in the works, but I'm back on track now and with time to write again, courtesy of the employer that dispensed with my services last year.

Family history research. This combines my (possibly unnatural) triple passions for tracking down information, for solving problems and for documenting the results. I promise not to bore you with the minutiae of my findings, but I might mutter from time to time about the research process.

Science and technology. I did my degree in Physics (career aspirations: astronaut or astronomer, both viewed as more respectable than writing for a living, if equally unlikely) and then worked for mnnhh years in the IT industry.

Domestic quotidiana (amateur cooking, gardening and cat-herding) plus life in a small village (population circa 500) on the Gloucestershire/ Wiltshire borders.

Anything else that catches my attention...

Or possibly nothing at all.
