Somebody shoot me!
Mar. 29th, 2020 06:28 pm It was only an idea...
Gestated watching the ongoing car crash that is the village Facebook Page.
(An aside: we have two village Face Book pages. Nobody knows who runs the nasty one (except the person who runs it, and posts daily anodyne pap -- and political stuff I ignore; and who deletes anything faintly critical and/or asking them to identify themself. And the better one, which only has all the problems of a Facebook page, but is almost always useful -- as useful as Facebook can be.)
I posited that we (the village) needed a central repository of offers of help or services (local volunteers, delivery services, local businesses offering to run errands, plus the government services; accessible via a website (which I volunteered to set up) or by phoning designated volunteers (we have a high proportion of elderly people who don't grok the web.) Essentially a one stop shop.
Response within 5 minutes: the Parish Council is collating all local volunteers and you will be able to contact them via our website. In a couple of weeks...
Which is not what I suggested, and not what people need, and I will not point out that the person who responded is paid for website development....
But sigh: I do not want to do this. Developing a new website is just noise... but I do want to help people while I can't leave my house.
